Kemi’s beaches offer options for both families and those looking for a more peaceful seaside experience. One of the most popular is Mansikkanokka Beach, located close to the town centre. Its sandy shore and shallow waters make it especially suitable for families with children. The beach is easy to reach on foot, by bike, or by car.
In summer, the beaches attract swimmers, sunbathers, and outdoor enthusiasts. In winter, the same areas take on a different character: the frozen sea and snowy landscapes provide opportunities for outdoor activities, and winter swimming spots invite visitors to take a dip in icy water.
Kemi has three official public beaches: Mansikkanokka, Paavonkari, and Takajärvi, offering good facilities for summer swimming across the city. A winter swimming spot is located in the inner harbour.
The water quality at public beaches is monitored by municipal health authorities. All beaches have changing facilities and toilets. There are no lifeguards on duty at the beaches in Kemi.

Other swimming spots
- Ajos beach was one of the most popular swimming spots in Kemi until the early 1990s. Since then, the water level has dropped significantly, and the shoreline has receded and become overgrown. It is no longer maintained as an official beach, but it is still used, for example, for swimming dogs.
Other unofficial swimming spots in Kemi include Vähämaa and Ajoksen Hiekkapankki.
