The longest river in Finland reaches the sea just by the City of Kemi in the bottom of the Bothnian Bay. Before that the waters of River Kemijoki have flowed by some calculations for 550 kilometres, originating from the small streams of Finnish and Russian Lapland – weaving through untouched wilderness and especially in the downstream area more and more through manmade surroundings. The River Kemijoki estuary licence covers an aproximately 5-kilometre long river band from the Isohaara power plant to the sea.
