pallot

Snowy winter landscape invites everyone to pass time outside. The surroundings of Kemi provide brilliant ski tracks with lean-tos along them which can be used to enjoy hiking snacks during exercise. The trekking routes of the nearby areas let you enjoy the snow and fresh air either independent or guided trekking in a beautiful scenery. We listed the routes below. You can find more information about the services here.

Here are some options and links on how to spend winter days in the Kemi area.

Kiikeli

Kiikeli, situated right at the city center, is a  popular recreational area. The route passes from the Ruutti park to the cape point of Kiikeli, where there’s a bird watching tower and a lean-to. From the cape point the journey continues to the nature trails of the marine nearby forest and circles back to the starting point unobstructed. Thanks to its excellent location Kiikeli is popular among both families with kids and  senior citizens. At the lean-to hiking snacks taste great and replenish the energy to zip up the birdwatching tower to gaze the sea or to stroll the winding nature trails in the forest before heading back to the city.

Veitsiluoto fishing spot

At the Veitsiluoto fishing spot there is an aproximately 4-kilometre long ring route along wich one can admire the nature’s colour splendour, try one’s fish luck or relax by the open fire on some of the area’s many lean-tos. The area’s accessibility is something that has been invested in: passage to both lavatory and fishing pier are unobstructed.

Kivalo

The trail of the Keski-Penikka observation tower is short but challenging. The trail is a part of the  route at Martimoaapa swamp reserve. The trail begins at the Kivalo parking area. In the beginning it passes along a road but towards the end it scales through a challenging scree to the Kivalo wilderness hut situated on top of Keski-Penikka. In the courtyard of the hut there is a fireplace, outhouse and observation tower offering a view that leaves one speechless.

SnowExcperience365

At the SnowCastle area one gets to experience the cooling effect of snow and ice every day of the year, even in summer. No matter how warm it is outside, indoors it’s minus five degrees Celcius so this castle won’t melt ever. In the SnowExcperience365 space there are spectacular ice sculptures and an ice slide. For the Seaside Glass Villa accommodating guests the entrance fee is included in the price of the accommodation reservation.
