This interesting vessel called Sampo is situated in Ajos Harbor, 11 km from the centre of Kemi. After serving for Finnish government since 1961, Icebreaker Sampo has been operating within tourism for over 30 years already. During the guided tour on board, you will be able to visit almost all parts of the vessel from the engine room to the captains bridge. You will hear stories of the icebreaker ́s operation in the arctic conditions in wintertime on the frozen sea. Kemi is one of the few places in the world where the sea freezes over and the icebreakers are needed to keep the port operating.
